| Abe was often asked if he wrote his own jokes, to which he replied that they were the product of far better story tellers than he. He was not a wholesaler but a "re-teller" of stories. When something happened that tickled his funny bone, his compulsive disposition to blurt out a spontaneous quip or joke just happened. It was hard for | him to suppress this compulsive behavior, and his one liners frequently got him into trouble. One day while reviewing troops he came upon a soldier at least six feet nine. Sizing up the tall stranger, he impishly looked up into the soldier's face and asked, "Say, soldier, does your head know when your feet get cold?" |
